Journey details

The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous and iconic treks in the world. The trip boasts not only the natural beauty of the Khumbu region but also a chance to immerse oneself in the culture of its inhabitants, the Sherpa. Buddhist mantras, prayer wheels, prayer flags, and various Buddhist monasteries along the path make the trip feel like a pilgrimage.

The trek starts with a flight to Lukla. Known as 'The World's Most Dangerous Airport', it has a short runway and is perched on a cliff. The weather is also unpredictable at these altitudes, which makes the flight an adventure on its own. Finding your way through Dingboche, Lobuche, and most notably Namche, dubbed as the ‘Gateway to Everest’, the trail will take you deep into Sagarmatha National Park, home to some of the rarest flora and fauna. Within 14 days, the entire trek will be over. The Sherpa Culture Museum located here contains all sorts of past physical memories of the Sherpa community. There is also a beautiful monastery called Namche Monastery.

This trek features Tengboche, where the largest monastery in this region is located. Built-in 1916 it features a large statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. Likewise, the Mani Rimdu Festival, an important festival of Sherpa, is celebrated here. This trek also takes you to Gorakshep, the world's highest human settlement, where you will spend a night. Above Gorakshep lies, Kala Patthar where you get the most unobstructed views of Mt of Everest (8,848.86 m/ 29,032 ft), along with Lhotse (8516 m/2595 ft), Nuptse (7861 m/2396 ft), and other Himalayan peaks. From the Everest Base Camp, you will get the most beautiful views of Khumbu icefall and other high Himalayan peaks.

The best season for the EBC trek is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September to November). Other seasons possess many difficulties such as the winter season bringing in heavy snowfall and fog and the monsoon season bringing in heavy rain and even delaying or canceling flights to Lukla. The Everest Base Camp Trek requires Khumbu local government permit and Sagarmatha National Park permit. Khumbu local government permit costs USD 17 per person for the first four weeks and then around USD 21 per person beyond four weeks. While the Sagarmatha National Park permits cost around USD 30. It is, however, free for children below 10 years.

Likewise, if traveling through Jiri is planned then an additional Gaurishankar Conservation Area permit costing around USD 30 per person is required. Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) permit required for trekking in Nepal is no longer applicable for trekking in the Everest Region. The trek is a difficult grade but provided you are physically fit, a prior experience in trekking is not a requirement.

Accommodation

We will stay in a three-star hotel, located in Kathmandu and the tea house during hiking. All accommodations are shared by two people. Single room will be available based on the additional charge. The Himalayan Adventure Nepal will organize rooms with private bathrooms. However, tea houses in some places have only shared toilets. It’s easy to find individual rooms in Kathmandu and low trekking trails, but can be difficult to find at higher altitudes.

Meals

On our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese cuisine and the most common international cuisine (Tibet, continent, Italy, India, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served at the tea house or the house menu, where we will spend the night and lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be served during the trek and at Kathmandu, only breakfast will be served. The hotel will also offer welcome and farewell dinner for the guest.

Is it possible for me?

Everest Base Camp Trek is a difficult trek but it is highly demanding and suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-6 hours a day with a light rucksack.at least the trekker need to be prepared physically and mentally as you might even need to walk 8 to 9 hours each day. Walking in higher altitude is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we have good health with average physical fitness, positive attitude, self-confidence and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully.

It will be better to have exercised and jogging regularly before embark on the trek to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience is preferred but no technical skill is required. It is important that we consult with our doctor before booking this trek. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform Himalayan Adventure Nepal before booking the trek.

Day by day

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu and trip preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)
A company representative will welcome you to the country after you land at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will then be transferred to your hotel which will be followed by a briefing about the trek. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2 Kathmandu-Lukla flight and trek to Phakding (2610m) 3/4 hours
Today, you will take a 45-minute flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The flight is exhilarating and you can see a magnificent view of the Himalayas. After you land, you descend to Phakding for 3-4 hours where you spend the night. The beautiful view of Kusum Kangaru (6367 m) welcomes you to Phakding.
Day 3 Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m)-5/6 hours
After breakfast in Phakding, you walk along the milky-white waters of Dudh Koshi crossing many suspension bridges. The trekking trail takes you to several villages, including the prominent ones like Jorsale and Monjo. The former is a small village, while the latter is the entry point of the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. After 5-6 hours of trekking, you reach Namche Bazaar where you spend the night.
Day 4 Acclimatization Day - Namche Bazaar: (3,440m/11,284ft)
This day will be spent acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar. You can stroll through many shops and cafes catering to tourists. The Namche Monastery offers insight into the religion of this region. There is also a museum of local medicinal plants and Tibetan herbal medicine. The healing center and Namche Library are also important attractions here. This colorful village also offers a stunning view of Thamserku Peak (6623 m) and the Kongde Ri Himal.
Day5 Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m/12,694ft): 10km, 5 - 6 hours
After breakfast, you head to Tengboche. Following the trail along the right side of the Dudh Koshi River and enjoying the astounding natural scenery of streams, hills, and the Himalayas, the village of Tengboche is reached. The village of Tengboche is situated at the union of the Dudh Koshi and the Imja Khola Rivers and is bounded by rhododendron forests. The village is known for the Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Khumbu region. If you visit during October and November, you can observe the Mani Rimdu Festival. Overnight stay at Tengboche.
Day 6 Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft): 9km, 5 - 6 hours
As the hike today, goes crosses 4000 m, there is a need to proceed cautiously. Passing through Imja River through a suspension bridge, you will reach Dingboche. Dubbed the 'Summer Valley' of Khumbu as it has a long wall built to the protection of crops against cold storms descending from Imja Valley. Today, you will be mesmerized by the views of Lhotse (8,516 m/ 27,940 ft) and Ama Dablam (6,812 m/ 22,349 ft).
Day 7 Dingboche: Acclimatization
Dingboche is also an amazing village for acclimatization. You can also take a trip to Nagarjuna Hill, from where you can see an unparalleled view of different peaks including Everest (8,848.86 m/ 29,032 ft), Nuptse (7,861 m/ 25,791 ft), Lhotse (8,516 m/ 27,940 ft), and Ama Dablam (6,812 m/ 22,349 ft). After the ascent, you return to Dingboche and explore the monasteries there. Overnight stay at Dingboche.
Day8 Dingboche to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 7km, 5-6 hours
After a warm meal in Dingboche, it is time to head towards Lobuche. The trail takes through Dughla, Chupki Lhara, and then descends to Khumbu Glacier moraine. The panoramic views of Khumbu Tse (6636 m/ 21,772 ft) and Pumori (7165 m/ 23,507 ft) from the moraine are something you will cherish for the rest of your life. Though this portion of the trek is tougher than others, the views will make it worth it.
Day 9 Trek to The Everest Base Camp (5364m) via Gorakshep (5164m) and return to Gorakshep overnight. – 5/6 hours
The day has finally arrived, and Everest Base Camp is finally within reach. A gentle walk overlooking the world's highest glacier – Khumbu glacier takes you to Gorakshep. From there, following a snow trail, you finally take the finals steps to Everest Base Camp. The views offered by the Everest Base Camp of the Khumbu Icefall and the sight of the Khumbu Tse (6636 m/ 21,772 ft) truly make for a humbling experience of the beauty of nature. After spending some time at the base camp relishing the highlights and the atmosphere, we shall return to Gorakshep. Overnight stay at Gorakshep.
Day 10 Hike to Kalapatthar (5644m) and trek to Pheriche (4371m) - 6/7 hours
An early morning hike to Kalapatthar from Gorakshep is the best part of the trip. Kalapatthar is a well-known vantage point common for providing panoramic views of Mount Everest (8848.86 m), Nuptse (7861m), and the Pumori (7165 m), and Lhotse (8414 m) among many other peaks. This is the highest point of the trek. Ascent to Kalapatthar is done early for the sunrise is wonderful. At Kalapatthar, you get the most unobstructed views of the Eastern Himalayas especially Mt of Everest (8,848.86 m/ 29,032 ft), Lhotse (8516 m/2595 ft), and Nuptse (7861 m/2396 ft). After some time at Kalapatthar, we will return to Pheriche. Overnight stay at Pheriche.
Day 11 Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,280 ft): 20km, 6 - 7 hours
The day entails a long and tiresome trek along the Imja River. From Pheriche, you head to Pangboche and then to Orsho. After leaving Orsho, you head to Deboche followed by Tengboche, home to the illustrious Tengboche Monastery. Heading back to Namche, you reach Khumjung village and finally Namche Bazaar. Here, you can buy souvenirs to commemorate this trip and postcards for your loved ones’ back home. Overnight stay at Namche.
Day 12 Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,860m/9,186ft): 19km, 6 - 7 hours
From Namche Bazaar, you retrace your steps and descend along the Dudh Koshi River. Walking through the Sagarmatha National Park, you descend to Jorsale and exit the park to reach Monjo. Further ahead, the trail drops to Phakding and towards Bengkar. From Bengkar, it’s a short while to Lukla. You can complement the success of the trip with the celebratory drinks at the local eateries. Overnight stay at Lukla.
Day 13 Fly to Kathmandu
Bidding the Everest region farewell, you get on a short-scenic flight to Kathmandu. Leaving Lukla, you relish the views of the Himalayas for the final time and upon arriving in the valley, you head to the markets to shop for souvenirs. The day can also be spent visiting the sites of cultural significance in the city. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 14 Final departure
After such as adventurous trek, it’s time to bid farewell. You will be taken to the airport about three hours before your flight by our employees.
